Runner was found and rescued by two alert and conscientious hunters in a place and position he never would have survived nor been found by anyone else. He was 6.5 miles from home, 1/2 mile off a rural country road at the back of a corn field abutting a stretch of woods. He had tried to climb over an old 6' tall wire cattle fence when a loose wire snagged in a hind quarter ripping a gash down his leg as he descended on the other side of the fence where the wire then popped all the way thru at his knee joint, whereby he was permanently hooked and could not free himself. His hind leg strung straight up 6' in the air, his front paws barely touching the ground. He survived that for three days and nights in the cold, freezing rain, in a rural area ripe with coyotes. Small miracle he is alive. Hunters found him, unhooked him, put him in the bed of their truck and drove him to meet us. He spent two days at the vet hospital. Unfortunately, circulation and blood flow had been amiss too long in that hind leg to save the leg. He is now a tripod dog. But alive and doing amazingly well. The cone seems to be a bigger challenge to him than the missing limb (but all dog owners know how the cones go over). Thank you to ALL for your messages with prayers, hope, encouragement. Prayers answered. To all those still looking for their loved ones: You have our prayers and our hope for happy endings as well. Do not give up. Believe in the will of your pet to survive and the kindness of mankind to help get them back home. THANK YOU TO ALL
