Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adopt-A-Dog is a dog and cat rescue sanctuary organization serving New York and Connecticut and beyond for three decades. Our shelter is open seven days a week. Our dedicated staff and volunteers strive to provide the best care possible while the animals are at our shelter awaiting safe and permanent homes.
Our Mission: Adopt-A-Dog’s mission is to find safe, permanent homes for our discarded companion animals. For three decades, Adopt-A-Dog has been “Coming to the Rescue” by meeting the medical and emotional needs of dogs and cats and maintaining its position in the battle of over-population by neutering the creatures that enter our shelter. It remains our choice to help. Adopt-A-Dog’s steadfast goal is to reach out to the next generation of pet owners to promote responsible lifetime ownership.
