Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

The purpose of the Morehouse Humane Society is to aid in the relief from suffering and rehabilitation of abused and abandoned animals which are brought into the Bastrop City Shelter by the city Animal Control Officer; to help stop over population of these animals; to provide human care and treatment of these animals; to seek to reunite animals with their rightful owners or find suitable homes for those without owners; to prevent cruelty of animals; to provide humane euthanasia when it is deemed a last resort in order to end an animals suffering in a hopeless situation; and to promote education teaching responsible pet ownership.
