Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in Illinois
(report broken link)
The Humane Society of Logan County is a shelter for homeless animals in Logan County, Illinois. In April 2006 the HSLC was chartered as a not-for-profit (501c3) organization and operated as a foster-based shelter. In May 2011, through a very generous gift of 2.5 acres of land and community support, we had our groundbreaking. In September 2011, our physical shelter opened and continues to make strides in animal welfare every day. That same community support not only opened our doors but also keeps us going. HSLC is supported by a board of directors, an amazing team of dedicated volunteers, and one part-time animal care coordinator.
As a not-for-profit animal welfare organization, HSLC does not receive federal, state, or local tax dollars. In addition to nominal adoption fees, HSLC relies heavily on donations from individuals and corporations who also have a commitment to animal welfare, and fundraising activities.
The HSLC is grateful for the community support and volunteers who dedicate countless animals each year. Through our adoptions, food pantry, veterinary assistance program, and partnership with APL for a low-cost spay/neuter program, we are fortunate to make a difference in the lives of animals and families in Logan County.
HSLC is a no-kill shelter, but reserves the right to euthanize animals in extreme situations. To constitute a no-kill shelter, the shelter does not euthanize for time or space constraints. Humane euthanasia is used as a last resort in instances when an animal is deemed too ill or too dangerous for rehabilitation and that such action is the most humane treatment. These decisions will never be made lightly or before going to extensive lengths to rehabilitate or transfer the animal to a more appropriate facility.
