Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Adoptable Pets in Arizona

The Verde Valley Humane Society was originally formed in 1982 by a group of individuals with a desire to help animals. However, it wasnt until March 31, 1986 that groundbreaking for the original shelter took place, with the Grand Opening held the following August 2nd. In the 20 plus years that followed, the community grew tremendously, but the shelter did not.
Then in late 2009 ground was broken for Phase 1 of the construction for the new facility. We moved into our current structure in March 2010 and had the official ribbon cutting ceremony April 16, 2010.
We have grown into a vibrant animal shelter with a wonderful staff who are the heart of our operations. The dedication of our people is what allows the Verde Valley Humane Society to thrive and continue to be of service for the beautiful animals that find their way to us.
VVHS also has an amazing amount of support & assistance from a passionate Board of Directors and a tireless army of volunteers. Each of us honored to better the lives of the cats & dogs who depend on us each day.
Stop in any time during business hours to say hello to us and the animals! You just might find yourself with a new beloved pet or find the spark to become part of our family of volunteers!
Our Mission
VVHS exists to humanely protect all companion animals in our community, as well as the people who care for them and to educate in order to achieve our vision of a world free of animal cruelty and neglect.
