Woof! Meow! One thing before you go…
Do you need to find a loving home for your pet?
Shelters are often inundated with pet surrenders, and do not want to provide a simple outlet that takes away the obligation of responsible pet ownership. Therefore, they would prefer that people try hard to find a solution before resorting to surrendering their pet to a shelter. If you must find a new home for a pet, please try posting to our adoption portal before placing the burden on the shelter. Direct adoptions work well and allow everyone to share in the accountability of their community!

Who we are
The Ark Cat Sanctuary is a 24/7/365 no-kill operation dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of cats and kittens that are in “at-risk” situations at a municipal shelter, in a home environment, or on the streets. We are located on 10 acres in the midst of the Kaibab National Forest, 35 miles northwest of Flagstaff, AZ.
What we do
Our most critical operation is the medical rehabilitation of sick cats from public facilities where they might otherwise be euthanized. We bring these cats to the Ark and nurse them back to health so they can be returned to both public and private adoption venues. We also work with other animal welfare organizations in the Flagstaff area to provide temporary refuge to cats and kittens during peak overpopulation times.
Our facility
At the Ark, the cats live in two main buildings: a horse barn that has been modified for the cats and has six separate rooms, and a house with a large sun room. There is a separate smaller building for mom cats and kittens. We have several outdoor habitats with weatherproofed sleeping sheds for cats who prefer an outdoor environment. The cats are grouped by age, temperament, food requirements, and health conditions.
Outreach
The Ark is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. People from all walks of life volunteer and contribute both financially and physically to running the shelter. We welcome the opportunity to speak to school children, church groups, or other social organizations to teach them about cats and about humanely dealing with the problem of cat overpopulation. We try to get other people directly involved in dealing with this problem through proper care of their own cats, through spay and neuter education, and through trap-neuter-release programs for feral populations.
