About this Dog
Date into Rescue: 3/7/2016 the first time, adopted 04/16/2016 but returned 07/28/24 when his loving owner was hospitalized. Sadly, her health has come to a point where she can no longer provide for Billy Reason for being in rescue: owner release/health of owner Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Billy has many old age issues. He has a 6/6 heart murmur and is now on supporting heart medication (Enalapril 1.25 mg twice per day (https://www.1800petmeds.com/enalapril-prod10282.html) at 1800petmeds, this is .15 cents per day or about $4.50 per month. He had a major dental with 4 extractions, and he had a lump on his chest we've had removed. He has one more dental checkup as there is a fistula (a hole where a tooth was) that may need repaired. We're monitoring that. His vision is clouding with cataracts, and he needs to be monitored, especially during dim lights. Billy has a history of reoccurring bladder stones and currently has bladder stones that are being treated by a special food. He will need to eat Purina Prescription diet UR for life. This food is roughly $75 for him every 6-10 weeks if fed the proper amount. Through all of this, somehow Billy never ever figured he's supposed to be ancient. He's a doll with a wonderful enthusiasm for living. Billy says age is just a number. Weight: 12.5 lbs Height: 10 in at the shoulder est Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Billy will be available to be adopted after his recheck scheduled for August 14. When he is ready, we are looking for a home that will understand Billy. The "what" is flexible for Billy - apartment or farm, townhome or condo, or single-family home. All that is negotiable. We don't think he would do well with kids simply because he's not had much exposure to them but a single, professional couple, a family with a heart for seniors or a single person with love to spare, Billy could work well with any of that. You just have to have a pool. Billy loves his pool. What is my personality like? Billy originally came from a hoarder, a woman who lived on the end of a long dirt road in the country where people would drop unwanted animals, and she would take them in. She meant well, but conditions were horrible with not enough money for food, much less vet care and with overcrowding and far too many dogs in every kind of odd contraption to keep them in you can imagine. He was under socialized, and unused to living in a home. That's when his new owner stepped in. Fast forward 8 years and Billy is a social butterfly, happy, gregarious and loving. It's obvious his owner spent a lot of time with him, and patiently taught him to love life and how to live life with humans. It was just the two of them and she doted on him and put her love into him. It shows. Now - with Betsy no longer able to care for her boy, we're hoping someone else will step in. Someone who will understand that Billy loves life and has learned to trust us humans to take care of his needs. He still needs that. Someone that understands that every day is a gift and when the sun finally sets, which for Billy will most likely be sooner rather than later, it sets on a life well-loved and enjoyed. Billy needs someone who will count the joy they have with him in the love and not in the days. He won't be here as long as most dogs but for the days he will be here, he plans to live them well. How do I act when I first meet new people? New people are just people Billy hasn't schmoozed a treat out of yet. Other tips and tidbits: Billy came from a hoarder. With no pedigree to go on, we had to guess. We guessed back then as a birthdate of 03/11/14. He could be older - we just don't know. We do know he is now a senior with many senior challenges, and he still loves life like a puppy and is ready for his next adventure. The last photo listed is Billy's intake photo from 2015. You can see in the new pictures, he's a little gray around the muzzle but he does not let that slow him down. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
