About this Dog
To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 3 months (as of 08/24/24) Weight: 21.6 pounds (as of 09/17/24) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Andy is one of six siblings in the Delta litter, which was found abandoned by one of our rescue partners. They appear to be beagle mixes, but your guess is as good as ours. Unfortunately, their mother was heartworm positive, so she is currently staying with a different rescue group, while she receives medical treatment. She is the dog in the fourth photo on this listing. The puppies are living in a very busy foster home with an adult woman, two teenagers, and five other dogs. On the average day, they spent about half of the time either kenneled or outside, and otherwise, they are inside the house. They generally go on walks twice a day, in addition to their outdoor time. All six puppies love to play! They are intelligent, very affectionate, and reliably responsive to corrections. Andy and her siblings enjoy chasing each other, playing tug-of-war or wrestling, and swimming. They adore toys of all kinds, but they think that cuddling with their people is a lot of fun, too! They bark when they play and will alert bark when company comes to call. They are extremely friendly and enjoy meeting new people and dogs, but they haven't encountered any cats or small animals yet. Since they are only babies, the puppies are just beginning their house, crate, and leash training. So far, they are making excellent progress. They are quiet and clean in their crates and kennels, and ride calmly in cars inside their crates. Like most puppies, the world is an exciting new place for them, so they are inclined to pull on their leashes. We recommend obedience training for all of our puppies, because it's a great way for you to learn the commands together and the puppy gains confidence, too. It's also fun for both of you! Andy is an outgoing and resilient puppy who is going to bring so much joy to whomever is lucky enough to bring her home! Medical Note: This puppy's mother is being treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this puppy. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl.org) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
