About this Dog
Hi. My name is HURLEY (Honey) and here is a little info about me:Breed: Anatolian Shepard / Great Pyrenees / Pointer mixAge: 1 yr (jun '23) Gender: femaleWeight: 85 lbsHeight: 29 inchesCountry of origin: Mid-East, now Washington stateHighlight(s): gentle, loyal, playful, calm, loving, clever, brave, intelligent. Here's a big plus for a big girl, you'll find me a very gentle soul with both cats and kids. Not to mention intelligent. My story could have turned out tragic, but thanks to a kind hearted person, I am alive. You see, at only 2 months old, some drunk guys were about to put me under their car's tire to roll over me. Can you imagine? My saviour saw this unfolding and ran over to save my life. She saw to it, I made it to Canada safe, but it has been a wait and a long journey here.I love to play with other dogs and I'm great with cats and kids and, well just everyone. I do need a strong leader though (gentle, but firm discipline), so I won't want to take the guardianship role displayed in my breed heritage. If you let me know you are in charge (not me), I will restrain my tendencies to be the leader and protect and let you do so. I follow commands well, but you need to let me know the rules and hold me to them.I do great at the dog park playing so well with other dogs and I go to doggy daycare when my foster goes out of town and the staff there just loves me. I will do best if there is another dog or two in the home. I'm clever and learn well from another dog and will follow their guidance. I am crate trained and enjoy sleeping in an open doored crate at night. I seem to really enjoy kids too. They are intriguing and I want to provide care watching over them.I do great in a car. I do tend to eat fast, so my foster feeds me separately from the other dogs. This may likely calm over time. I had to make sure to get my food when I could at the shelter. So once I know I will always get food, that should ease. Perhaps a slow down feeder may help too.I am so full of love and loyal to my owner. My foster says I am an amazing dog and just need the right family to be the perfect dog for them. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver.Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.[MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.[TURKEY] *Dogs receive 4D SNAP tests - which include: Heartworm, Ehrlichiosis, Leishmania and Anaplasmosis.
