About this Dog
LURA NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!! Come meet Lura and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (September 15th) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church (6100 - A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)! Name: Lura Best guess for breed: Lab and shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of August 2024 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 49 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats but she can be tested. Currently Living at: DC area foster home Special adoption considerations: Because Lura is shy, she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Lura in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Lura is Looking For: Her forever home! Lura was one of over a thousand animals in a shelter so far south in Texas that it's less than 30 miles from the border. She had very little chance of being adopted there and she's so awesome, shelter staff highlighted her in hopes of helping her get a home in the DC area. Lura is eagerly looking forward to her new chapter. The one where she gets her own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and all the adventures her family can dream up. She is looking forward to making new pup and people pals along the way. Exploring all the toys to see what she likes best, quality kibble, and a cushy dog bed are on her wish list as well. She has so much to offer in return - adoring gazes and happy tail wags plus loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Is Lura the one you see by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: Lura did really well for her overnight with us!! She was pretty nervous when she got off of the plane after her trip from Texas and sat in the back of the car taking the occasional treat while looking out the window and taking in the sights of DC! Even though she was nervous, she let me bathe her (twice!) and pick her up. We went to the dog park multiple times and she ran zoomies around my dog and walked really well on leash, including past other dogs. She asked me for belly rubs, would crawl in my lap, and gave me and my dog lots of kisses. Although she was incredibly scared, but did not exhibit any kind of aggression toward me or my dog and took corrections well. She’s a typical shy dog who is nervous of new things, but was willing to face her fears in the safety of our home! She did the lowest growl at her reflection saying “who are you in my home??” and felt the same towards one of my bookends! Once I carried the bookend over to her slowly to let her sniff, she checked it out and realized the dog shaped bookend was no threat :) She does well with slow intros to new people. All she needs is someone to advocate for her, asking new people to let her sniff them before eye contact or petting. She warmed up to my fiancé quickly and made some friends at the event when we walked over to a quiet area so she could feel safe. Lura is seriously the sweetest girl, shy dogs are the best!! They can take a little bit of time to warm up, but once you have their trust it’s forever Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog . Adopt Lura and Receive Dogecoin
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Lura's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised. Dogecoin is digital currency that can be exchanged for cash, traded, or held as an investment (see the "What is Dogecoin" section below).
0.0 DOGE is Lura's current Dogecoin balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Lura, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Lura's Dogecoin here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Lura was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Lura’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

We want the Lura’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Lura’s balance will remain in our general Dogecoin fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
