About this Dog
Bernie was born around October 15, 2020 (this is a guess and perhaps he could be a year or two older) and weighs about 30 pounds. We were told Bernie was one of a few cherished Beagles owned by an elderly man who had a stroke and will not be coming home from the care center. The man's adult children didn't really care for the Beagles and decided to no longer care for them. Another rescue took one of the little girl Beagles and she was skin on bone and actually pooping out pebbles - I guess when there is no food you eat whatever fills you up. We heard that there was another couple of them that needed rescue and we took in this delightful little boy and, thankfully, his condition was not as severe. Bernie was a little underweight and eating really well. We can't imagine what the living conditions were to have caused such an odor that we had to crack the windows on the near hour ride back to Joyful. His two back dew claws were curled into his flesh and a vet visit diagnosed the plum size "bump" beside his tail, on one side, as a rectal hernia. It is likely Bernie has had this all his life and, at least at this time, it doesn't bother him and he defecates just fine. We were told that it may or may not bother him the rest of his life and if it does there is a surgery to fix it. We adore this little boy and he is startying to feel worthy of our love. We feel that he truly didn't feel he deserved all the love and care he was receiving from us. We don't feel he has been physically abused, but he surely felt unlovable. Bernie walks wonderfully on leash! Well, that was all to change! Soon he began wagging his tail more and adjusting to his new life. He ADORES the fenced yard and romping with all the other dogs here! He does love all of us new humans and someone out there is going to be so very happy when they find this adorable little boy and welcome him into their home! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.
