About this Dog
Handsome Bambino came to us as a stray in mid 2023. He's a happy boy (especially when a pool is involved!). Volunteer notes, 6/17/24:I love Bambino so, so much and have written about him several times, because he is always showing me something new. He is a multifaceted dog! Today we combined his two favorite things--tennis balls and a wading pool--and I am pretty sure he was the happiest dog on earth. You can never have too many tennis balls in your hands at once, and if you throw them into the water in rapid succession it will bring the deepest joy to this smart and energetic doggie as he fetches and drops them as fast as he can. He can catch a tennis ball in his mouth with perfect precision. He could probably outperform most of the Dock Dogs with a little encouragement!Volunteer notes, 5/2/24:I have played with Bambino several times now and my conclusion is that his behavior is very consistent, and he warms up steadily over time. Each time I have played with him we've understood each other better. He is a good communicator, and if you listen to his cues, and let him chew on his toys when he wants to, he is the friendliest and gentlest boy you can imagine. The only time he ever growled at me was when I tried to take something from him before he was ready. He used his words; what more can you ask for?! He is smart and I believe he could learn to share his toys more readily with some consistent, positive, patient training. He has the sweetest floppy ears and cutest little cow spots on his back, along with a lovely speckled coat. He will be a great active companion for the lucky person who respects his things and earns his trust! I see the potential for great loyalty from this dog!Dog Day Out notes, 4/19/24:Bambino went on a hike at the beautiful Cates Farm Park in Mebane. He's one smart and friendly boy. He pulled on the leash at first and would get excitable in the car, around other dogs, and when other people passed. But he is easily corrected with some instruction on the leash. He's very treat-motivated and will sit for treats. After a hike, we went to the Mebane Dog Park, where he played with his tennis ball and hung out in the shade. Bambino is very loving and affectionate.Volunteer notes, 4/18/24:We had a great time in the play yard with Bambino today! He loved to chase balls and would bring them back and drop them politely for us to throw. When he sat down to chew on a ball, he did not want pets, but otherwise he was friendly and affectionate. He was very eager to get into the play yard but calmed down quickly.Dog Day Out notes, 3/16/24:We did a hike and picnic with Bambino. He does well with the car ride. Bambino was so well behaved. Pulls a bit on leash in the beginning but listens to certain commands. He enjoyed the hike and liked to carry his tennis ball most of the day. Foster notes, 12/22/23:Bambino is a great companion! Heâs super loving with lots of hugs and kisses. Heâs agile and likes to play, catching balls and ropes high up in the air and bringing them back for more fun. Bambino is immediately people friendly and can be dog friendly but needs a day or two to get used to them (nothing unusual). He loves going for walks in new places, car rides, and sleeping on the couch but he hates going out in the rain (understandably). Bambino is highly house trained. He can go the work day without having an accident and doesnât get into anything bad â he just sleeps on the couch. He is sometimes chained in the backyard for a quick bathroom break when Iâm home but can be left unsupervised for some time out there. Commands:Sit â very goodDown â goodStay â okay Come â very goodLook at me â good Bambino is truly a great, loving, fun dog and would be perfect for anyone looking for a best friend.Dog Day Out note, 10/7/23: Well, Bambino certainly knocks it outta the park being a great adventure buddy, eager to explore in the trails and a great car rider! He seemed to really enjoy our walk in the trails and moves at a good pace while still taking the time to smell the roses and stop and look around to take it all in. He's a good mix of quiet and independent but still social and will play around with you and get on his back for a belly rub! Overall a really easy dog to take for a day and sure to make his future adopter a great companion. He's housetrained, enjoyed meeting new people, loving and affectionate, and good on leash. He was a little shy at first but really came out of his shell by the end of the day.
