About this Dog
—-— DETERIORATING IN BOARDING ENVIRONMENT - Foster or Adopter Needed! ——- Pocket pittie Pengue likely got his name because he looks like a little Penguin! Sadly, this adorable little guy found himself timestamped for euthanasia in a NC shelter due to lack of space and him starting to exhibit kennel stress. The staff reported that he even had an “emotional support rock” - out in the play yard, he would seek out this specific rock every time he went outside, even ignoring any toys he was offered. And, although we were able to step in and save him in the nick of time, this poor guy is basically still living life as if stuck in the shelter, because no one stepped up for him and so we had no choice but to send him to boarding. And the shelter did not even send his emotional support rock with him (despite our request) :-( So to him, he’s *still* in a shelter environment which is very stressful for many dogs and we don’t want to see him continue to deteriorate, so we are hoping and praying that someone steps up for him soon - even if it’s just a foster him so he can start to live life in a home environment while waiting for his forever family. Since we’ve not had him in a home environment, we can’t really tell you much about his behaviors in that setting. But the Shelter and boarding staff report that he is well behaved, walks great on the leash, takes treats gently, and we know that he is good with social/playful female dogs his size - we even have a video of him playing with a female dog that we can send you (but he doesn’t seem to be very fond of male dogs, at least definitely not when he’s on leash or if there’s a gate in between). We are working on getting him kid and cat tested soon. If Pengue’s story tugs on your heart and you want to help this boy get to experience stability and love in a home environment so that he doesn’t have to seek out emotional support rocks, please reach out to us ASAP!
