About this Bird
Charlie is a very personable, very beautiful, 15 year-old male Hoffman's Conure (a rare species). He truly loves the people he loves, although males are his clear preference. He chatters up a storm in his cage or calls out, as soon as he sees them or hears their voices. He craves closeness, so as soon as his person opens his cage door, he pops out on his door, like a little Jack in the Box, and waits for your hand to pick him up- this always melts his foster family's hearts. : >D. He has sooo much personality and is truly a large bird in a small bird's body. And Charlie has tremendous love to give the one lucky enough to take him home! In the past, Charlie was diagnosed with a respiratory condition and x-rays showed white areas on his lungs. He was on three oral medications for about two years, but he was cleared recently, following careful consideration by two separate avian vets. He no longer takes any meds, but his foster family cotinues to watch for any signs of respiratory difficulties. He's been nothing but a normal, healthy bird since in their care this past year. Charlie is fully flighted and opts to fly away from situations he does not like or if spooked. His original family reported that he had been able to learn several behaviors such as kiss, recall, perching, go home, target and spin. Charlie loves his super healthy Topps pellets and eats almost any fruit and veggie, with cauliflower and scrambled eggs being his absolute favs! As with most birds, he will take a little time to form a relationship with a new person and build trust. Charlie is a very good and loving bird, but he may “play favorites” in his new family, but tends to chase off his "competitors" and even bite to protect his special person. In his two previous homes before coming into foster care, he developed a strong attachment to one individual with whom he was very sweet and affectionate, but acted aggressively toward other family members. For this reason, Charlie would be a fantastic bird for a single person, ideally a man, who can develop a strong bond with him, or for a family or couple that is willing to be patient and work on intentional socialization and training. He is a true shoulder/lap bird and would hang there all day, if given a chance. Once he is settled, he does like his head scrithes, and he will snuggle into you for some love. Charlie's original family reported some of the words Charlie says, but his speech isn't clear, so it hasn't become real evident since in Rescue. As with any Conure, he can be nippy and a little noisy at times, but nothing that should interupt the peace in the house too much. Around dusk, Charlie puts himself to bed in his hammock and usually does not like being disturbed (he needs his beauty rest). Charlie is currently being fostered in Howell, NJ, and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance. Charlie will require at least three visits to the foster home prior to adoption. We do not ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes across NJ and Philadelphia and only approved applicants are allowed to make visits to our adoptable birds. Adopt Charlie and Receive Dogecoin
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Charlie's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised. Dogecoin is digital currency that can be exchanged for cash, traded, or held as an investment (see the "What is Dogecoin" section below).
0.0 DOGE is Charlie's current Dogecoin balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Charlie, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Charlie's Dogecoin here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Charlie was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Charlie’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

We want the Charlie’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Charlie’s balance will remain in our general Dogecoin fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
