Louie has been handed a raw deal all the way around. He came from Arkansas when his owners took him to the shelter to be euthanized. They were a no-kill shelter, so they had him in the shelter for two months before reaching out to us to see if we would take him. Due to humans failing him, he has picked up some undesirable behaviors. That is where you come in... do you want to help him? He is going to take work and patience, lots of patience. He is a good dog, but he does have his challenges. He will need an owner who is willing to see him all the way through his life and help him overcome his challenges. Some of these include barking, guarding, and excitability. Are you willing to help him? Due to his issues, if you are interested in adopting him, then his foster mom would like you to email her first, and she’ll tell you the good, bad, and ugly about him and let you know it’s important to think about it first before filling out our online adoption application. Her email is [email protected] Our must-haves for adorable Louie include: A fenced yard Another young small female dog for him to play with, or he could be an only dog with his human, who is home more often than not Training experience is a plus and would be given preference Someone who could be home more than not No apartments, high-rises, or condos ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
