About this Dog
3/30/24 UPDATE...After court proceedings on his neglect case, Russell ended up staying with his rescue angel. Four years later, Russell finds himself in need of rescue again as his mom is now an angel watching over him from Heaven. We have once again committed to Russell and we are in desperate and urgent need of a foster home for him. He is already neutered and up to date on all vetting. Due to some extenuating circumstances, Russell is very thin and has a little bit of food guarding issues due to lack of being fed over the last couple of weeks. We were also told that he can be protective of his human but again we believe this is 100% situational and along with the food guarding is absolutely workable and will correct itself when he is safe and secure in a home. Please consider fostering the sweet boy whose world has been turned upside down.4/18/24 UPDATE...Russell arrived at his Kentucky foster home last weekend. He is sad and confused but is doing OK. He is eating well and is being allowed to decompress and adjust to allllll of the recent loss and changes in his life. We will post more updates soon!! 5/13/24 UPDATE...Russell arrived at Prestige Pets in Minnesota where he will be given time to chill out, decompress, then be evaluated with other dogs with slow and controlled intros. They will also be working with him on his resource guarding of food with other dogs. 9/17/24 UPDATE FROM KELLY AT PRESTIGE PETS......Russell is good with other dogs given proper introductions and his two week shutdown/decompression. I have not seen any issues with food or toys, even high value toys. He is a very good boy. Russell keeps a very clean kennel all of the time and not one issue there or even his leash manners now. He loves to give hugs and is happy on the couch next to you while you play video games or watch movies. He rarely barks and is very happy to greet you every day, even if you were only gone for 2 minutes LOL Russell will follow basic commands with ease given a proper time to bond with his people. He doesn’t get into trouble or need to be constantly watched. I’ve left him out overnight without any issues when I’m here of course. He hasn’t had one issue or gotten into anything. His favorite place is right next to his people and very loyal once bonded. Russell seems to love men more than women these days but here I'm the rulekeeper and Josh is the rulebreaker and loves on all of the dogs all of the time :) 2/6/25 FROM KELLY: Russell has the most amazing smile and hugs ever! He is happiest at your side doing everyday tasks and getting loving all day long. He loves to lay around but also loves to run, walk and play fetch. Russell walks well on a leash, is potty trained, crate trained and has the best manners! Maybe your Russell’s forever best friend?! 8/12/25 UPDATE FROM RUSSELL'S FOSTER MOM: Russell is the sweetest dog! He has an adorable underbite, gentle nature and quickly settles in to your home and heart. He loves soft things, car rides with his nose out the window, going for walks, and running at the dog park. He loves people, kids, and other dogs—even the barky neighbor dog doesn’t faze him! He sleeps next to the bed and greets you in the morning either laying his head on your lap or, if you’re not sitting, standing on his back legs and gently wrapping his paws around you— the best doggie hug! Russell is completely house-trained, quickly learnt to use the dog door, and hasn’t needed a crate because he’s just well behaved. He’s fine being alone during the work day and is so happy to see you when you get home. He’s a great walking companion who loves long walks, is perfect on a leash and listens really well. For a dog who had a rough start and hasn’t always been treated well by humans sometimes, he has an amazing spirit and is so undemanding. Be prepared to fall in love!

Adopt Russell and Receive Russell's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Russell's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Russell's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Russell, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Russell's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Russell was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Russell’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Russell’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Russell’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
