About this Dog
NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKES 8/5/2025: Mom is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix (about 12-15 pounds) - Dad was a pure-bred red Dachshund (approx 8-10 pounds) DOB 7/23/2025 Barbara - only female - 1.32 pounds at intake Brokaw - 1.26 pounds Cronkite - 1.26 pounds Gumbel - 1.32 pounds (looks like his mom) Reasoner - 1.38 pounds (the largest) Reason for intake: We were emailed about a momma dog and her pups, born 7/23/2025. The momma dog, a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix, developed mastitis and could not nurse her pups. Due to the pain, she also no longer wanted anything to do with them. It was an urgent situation. Currently, we have a nursing mom at the rescue... Jersey. Her pups were already eating gruel but we hadn't separated them from her yet so she still has milk. We pulled four of Jersey's pups, placed them in a kennel and walked out with them. Jersey saw and panicked, but we were sort of tricking her. We placed the five new pups in a kennel... took them out and she got all excited probably thinking we were bringing back her four. One by one, we took each pup out of the kennel and showed them to her. She IMMEDIATELY started cleaning them. She accepted them as her own from the JUMP! We kept two of her original pups in the pen with her but we will pull them soon too. We are so proud of our Jersey girl. She's not only an amazing mom but she's an amazing dog too... and to think someone abandoned her in a backyard and moved away. Disgusting. Ok, back to this litter. We started a dewormer on them. As for the momma dog, the owner wanted to keep her. We are paying for her to be treated for the mastitis at our vet and she already has an appointment to be spayed at our vet. No more pups for that little girl. The owner was very appreciative and followed our advice and instructions. People like that are easy to help. These pups have a few weeks before they are ready for adoption but stay tuned! NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS: Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed. Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining. In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason. We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption. In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered. Please note… we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption. Please wait until the dog is available for adoption. We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link: https://www.facebook.com/share/1B46skRWF5/ OR you can keep checking our website at www.roadtorescuela.org. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
