About this Dog
Before Barkley joined the rescue, he spent some time on the streets of Texas. While he’s still learning to trust people, he’s shown himself to be a very sweet and gentle dog. He is cautious and flighty by nature and may run and hide when he feels unsure. He just needs a slower-paced and calm home with a family focused on building his confidence and trust at his own speed. Older respectful children may be okay for Barkley but little kids move too quickly and can be unpredictable and noisy, which scares Barkley. He clearly wants to connect, he is still figuring out how to ask for it. Barkley is mostly potty trained and learning how to walk on a leash. He should be treated as a flight risk until trust is firmly in place, he should at the minimum ALWAYS be on a leash for safety until he trusts you and knows that his adoptive home is his safe place. At this time at least a 4-foot fence would be ideal for him, he is very springy and he has jumped a 3 -foot pen when he was anxious. Barkley doesn’t like to be crated but he is such a good boy and he can be trusted to free roam in the house when you’re not home. Barkley requires a friendly dog or two in his adoptive home to help show him the ropes and teach him that he will be loved and safe with his adoptive family. He is less anxious with another dog in his life. In his foster home, he follows the other small dogs around the house, and in and out the door to do his business in the fenced yard. He enjoys spending time outside lying in the grass. He has shown some interest in initiating play with his foster family dogs and has started to show interest in playing with toys or balls. Barkley isn’t looking for anything flashy—just a family that is steady, patient, and ready to show him what a good life feels like. If you’re looking for a quiet, gentle, scruffy little buddy with a mohawk for you and your other dog, then why not fill out a application and take a chance on Barkley, watching him blossom will fill your heart with love. Barkley is from Texas. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Adopt Barkley and Receive Barkley's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Barkley's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Barkley's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Barkley, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Barkley's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Barkley was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Barkley’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Barkley’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Barkley’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
