About this Dog
This is a story about Phoebe (formally Goldie Hawn), a young, adorable, little Jack Russell-Chihuahua mix.It has two authorsâher foster mom and her first adopter.Read her story to the end...it has a few twists and turns but we know it will eventually have a happy ending for her and her perfect person. She started out sooooo scared after being picked up in a field in Woodland. At the shelter, she took refuge under a bed, with big, barking dogs all aroundânot a happy girl. But she was friendly when volunteers took her to the outside kennels, coming up to them but with her tail tucked well under. After she was spayed, she was taken into a foster home where we learned a lot about this charming little gal. She hopped on to an admittedly very low balance beam and held steady, then happily jumped onto a rubber platform, with the cat audience looking on (pictures below). Fine with other dogs, wanting to chase and play. OK on leash, eats well, likes lap-sitting, happy to get treats (especially cheese), crate-trained, staying quiet all night. Actually, she hasn't made any noise at all and is mostly pretty calm...so some gentle, quiet breed is in her somewhere... She is hesitant with some people upon first meeting, but it doesn't take her long to trust; sheâs just sensitive to people's emotions. She was quickly adopted by someone who said Phoebe was just perfect upon first meeting her. They quickly bonded and she was taken to her new home where she was adored by her mom. However, the teenager in the house didn't feel the same way and Phoebe picked up on itâ¦. After a month of trying, her mom selflessly thought Phoebe would be happier in a home where she was loved by all and sadly brought her back to her foster mom.She had named her Phoebe La Chancla and writes poignantly to her future adopter: Phoebe is a 9 lb. ball of personality! Once she's comfortable in her space, she reveals her sweet and lively nature. She'll also show you that she can be stubborn and a bit mischievous, but that just makes her more endearing. The vibrant energy she'll bring into your world is worth the time and patience it takes to support her as she acclimates to her new home. She has never met a treat she doesn't like, so tossing them to her and quietly letting her come to you at her own pace is the key to showing her that you are a safe place to land. Committing to a routine that includes daily walks and play sessions will help her settle into her new environment. When introduced to new people, she responds better to those with calm, non-confrontational energy rather than those with more assertive/aggressive energy. In my experience, she showed less tolerance for teenagers as well. Words that come to mind when I think of PhoebeâFun, Lively, Charming, Cuddly, Intelligent, Curious, Tenacious, Silly, Joyful, Agile, Soulful. Phoebe will be the perfect companion for someone! She just wants to belong and be loved.

Adopt PHOEBE and Receive PHOEBE's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, PHOEBE's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is PHOEBE's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the PHOEBE, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming PHOEBE's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and PHOEBE was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, PHOEBE’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the PHOEBE’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, PHOEBE’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
